Give your SaaS team a small window into archived feedback

Add archived SideProject feedback to a SaaS research workspace. Start with three records, keep retrieval on your server and budget the feature before rollout.

Start with a product question, not a bigger backlog

Before a planning meeting, a teammate wants examples of how people describe feedback on side projects. A useful first feature is a small research view: request a handful of archived records, read them and decide whether a question deserves further investigation. It should help frame the next conversation with customers, without turning a few search matches into a demand forecast.

For a small SaaS team, that is a concrete boundary for a hosted Reddit API. Let a permitted user ask for examples; keep the search and credential on your backend. Your product decides who can open the view and what happens after someone reads it.

What you hand over, what your team still builds

Reddit API Cloud gives small SaaS teams read access to an independent historical Reddit archive. It is not official or affiliated with Reddit and does not provide live updates, Reddit OAuth, posting, voting or private messages. You can call its HTTPS API without operating the archive's Elasticsearch cluster yourself. That does not remove the work of running your own application, storing responses you need or deciding what your product should show.

The hosted part is archive retrieval. Your research workspace, saved notes and decisions belong to your application. Start with an explicit user action instead of assuming every page load needs another remote search. This keeps the first integration understandable to the person building it and the person using it.

Put three records through the whole feature

Use GET https://api.redditapicloud.com/v1/search?q=feedback&subreddit=SideProject&limit=3. q=feedback supplies the text search, subreddit=SideProject restricts the community and limit=3 requests at most three records. Without kind, search can return posts and comments; the default page is one. Send X-API-Key: <key> or Authorization: Bearer <key> from your server. Either header carries this domain's archive key, not a Reddit OAuth token.

Synthetic response excerpt for demonstration only: {"data":[],"pagination":{"page":1,"limit":3,"total":0,"relation":"eq"},"credits":{"cost":1,"balance":99}}. No actual request produced it and the balance is fictional. A successful empty first page can have an exact query total of zero and still costs one credit. This is not a real claim about the SideProject inventory or the results your application will receive.

Use this small call to check the entire journey from an allowed click to readable text. Validate the data array and any title or text you display. Records are flat; optional local grouping using available parent_id or link_id values cannot establish a complete conversation.

Design the empty state before the success screen

An empty archive response means this request returned no records. It does not show that nobody discussed feedback or that SideProject was surveyed completely. Label the view accordingly, and give a failed retrieval a different state so users do not mistake an unavailable source for an empty search.

The first records follow archive document order, not relevance, score or time. A small preview is therefore an integration sample, not a ranked shortlist of the strongest opinions. If a teammate saves an observation, keep the query and the source text separate from their interpretation. Coverage, continued availability and identical repeat results are not promised.

Decide what one click may spend

Every successful retrieval costs one credit, including empty pages and successful repeats: $1 per 1000 requests. Invalid requests do not debit; upstream failures refund reservations. A client timeout can follow a charged success, and another successful attempt costs another credit. Set your own retry and page budgets before exposing repeated searches to product users. Local parsing or database failure does not reverse the remote charge.

Move from the pilot only when its output is useful enough for your product. Signup shows the key before payment; 100 trial credits are conditional. Paid access starts with a $50 top-up for 50000 credits. The key page handles account setup, the documentation defines the request contract, and the guide develops the feature's release checks.
